Notizie sul Gufo di palude Asio flammeus in Algeria

Il Gufo di palude Asio flammeus è stato osservato, in inverno, nelle aree di incolti e steppa della Riserva Naturale di Merqueb (Hodna).
L’autore ha osservato personalmente due Gufi di palude in volo in un area di un fiume in secca con vegetazione caratterizzata da Pini d’Aleppo nel gennaio 2003.
La specie è osservata nei periodi invernali vicino alle paludi nel Nord –Est dell’Algeria ( parco Nazionale di El-Kala).

Frederic Malher ci segnala quanto riporta il volume Birds of Algeria (Isenmann and Moali - SEO Paris 2000), non sono noti casi di nidificazione di Gufo di palude in Algeria, solo osservazioni di rapaci in migrazione (soprattutto in primavera) con dati rilevati ovunque: dal Sahara al mare.

Some news of the Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus in Algeria

The Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus has been observed as wintering in the Mergueb Nature Reserve in steppe land areas (Hodna Region).
I personally observed two flying individuals in a dry river bed on planted Aleppo pines (Pinus halepensis) on early January 1993. In this area, the species has been reported roosting on artificial pine trees.
The species has also been recorded during winter in north-eastern Algeria in the vicinity of the wetlands (El-Kala National Park).

There is no data of Short-eared owl breeding in Algeria in the last book about "Birds of Algeria" (Isenmann and Moali - SEO Paris 2000), only migrating birds were seen, mostly in the spring, all over the country, from sea to Sahara (18/4/73 Tanezrouft......) That's all I know about that bird........
